The United States government distributed $49.1 billion in tariff refunds during June, marking a sharp acceleration in payouts to companies impacted by previous trade policies. This wave of reimbursements came during the second full month of disbursements following a landmark US Supreme Court decision that struck down President Trump's blanket tariffs on foreign goods.
The refunds represent duties that businesses had paid on imported materials and products under the former administration's trade actions. With the court ruling invalidating those broad tariff measures, the government has been processing claims at a faster pace to return the collected funds to affected industries. The June total alone brought the cumulative refund figure to over $100 billion since the process began, according to Treasury data.
Companies across manufacturing, retail, and agriculture sectors have been filing for repayment, with many reporting that the returned capital is helping to stabilize supply chains and offset higher input costs. The accelerated pace suggests that the administrative backlog is clearing, though some business groups continue to push for faster processing of remaining claims. The refund program is expected to continue for several more months as the government works through the full volume of eligible requests.
