The Illinois State Board of Elections has unanimously dismissed a complaint alleging campaign finance violations by Normal Town Council member Kathleen Lorenz. The decision, reached on Friday, clears Lorenz of accusations related to her financial disclosures for the 2025 mayoral race.
The complaint had alleged that Lorenz failed to properly itemize certain campaign expenditures. In its ruling, the board concluded that the evidence presented did not meet the required burden of proof to establish a violation of the Illinois Election Code. The board's hearing officer had previously recommended the dismissal, a finding the full board adopted.
Lorenz maintained throughout the process that her campaign reporting was accurate and in full compliance with all regulations. Following the decision, she expressed gratitude that the matter was resolved, allowing the focus to return to the upcoming election and the issues facing the community.
The dismissal ends the formal inquiry into the matter, permitting all candidates to proceed with the 2025 mayoral campaign. The State Board of Elections provides no further comment on dismissed complaints, as is standard procedure.
